	Since designation as a New Town, the number of companies in the town has multiplied by several fold and with local and national companies being located in Irvine. Among the better known are GE, Caledonian, Diageo, Jabil Circuits and Spirit Aerosystem. The business park extends to about 183 hectares (450 acres) in total and, as such, is one of the largest developments of its kind in the UK.
